British Columbia artist, Dariynn Silver, writes songs for the heart. Since the now 25 year old was young, piano theory and secret experimentation with her dad’s collection of guitars was an almost exclusive passion. Writing was only natural when put to song, since she spent her early years wandering through the mountains and trees of her Kootenays’ backyard, playing make-believe and singing to the forest animals.

When life turned more complicated and years stole innocence, music became a mysterious hideaway. As a teenager, she locked herself in her bedroom to write hundreds of songs/poems and study the technicality and meaning behind CD booklet lyrics. Silver was booking shows by age 12 and by 13 was recording original demos with her high school rock band, Shattered. With time, songs matured and she started the band, Hide in You, with her now-husband to perform and release music of a slightly softer style. Eventually, Silver stepped out as a solo artist when she felt a necessary season approaching to focus on concept studio work.

In 2017, she started a year-long songwriting project called Self / Scripts. The intent was for greater self awareness and the observation of emotion. Every month she wrote, recorded and released one song based on a different emotion, along with a blog post reflecting on the songs’ creation process. The most recognized release from Self / Scripts was, Entry 11: Apathy. Featured on Spotify’s official Fresh Finds playlist, it gained thousands of listeners and was nominated in the Kootenay Music Awards for Best Pop Song.

After an exhaustive year of creative output, Dariynn settled down to write about the aftermath of such a project. Silver also found new outlets writing custom licensed music for YouTube creators and began recording her new album Half Sight, which released on January 10, 2020. Half Sight contains five previously released songs, re imagined in a stripped and intimate way, plus one new brand new song. This acoustic-driven album is a true snapshot of the dark, elegant sound Silver delivers in a live performance. It seeks to notice the beauty of what is. In life, we are constantly forced losses. Half-Sight considers the things we couldn’t see or hear before.
